How To Clean Your Faucet Aerator

Most indoor water faucets have a faucet aerator screwed on to the end.

Aerator Faucet Parts

What does an aerator do?

  • Prevents splashing

  • Shapes the water stream coming out of the faucet spout producing a straight and evenly pressured stream

  • Conserves water and reduces energy costs

  • Reduces faucet noise

  • Increases perceived water pressure

  • Provides slight filtration of debris due to a small sieve plate

What do I do if my aerator doesn't seem to be working properly?

If your aerator is on the fritz try a quick clean.

  1. Wrap some electrical or masking tape around the jaws of the groove-joint pliers or around t*he aerator to prevent scratches.

  2. Grip the outside of the aerator with the pliers, and turn the aerator clockwise to loosen it.

  3. Disassemble the aerator.

  4. Use an old toothbrush and a gentle touch to clean the parts.

  5. Reassemble the aerator parts.

  6. Re-install the aerator on the faucet

If this doesn't work you may need to replace the aerator with a new one. For all your plumbing, heating and cooling needs give us a call at Service First Tradeworks Ltd. (250) 832-5558 or (250) 675-3668.
